THE HUNT: Our hog hunts are high-tech. We use all sorts of imaging technology such as night vision, Thermal imaging and infrared illumination. These devices are state of the art. You will be allowed to use the night vision devices ( we currently only have three) , but only we handle the thermal device. Usually, we identify hogs, then we stalk in, get you as close as possible, light them up with infrared, and you shoot them. We strongly suggest that you research night vision a little before you come out to the ranch. The “night vision forum” on AR15.com is a great place to get some beginner pointers. It is disorienting and if you are 100% new to it, we can train you a bit, but we can only guarantee a “shot opportunity.” We cannot assure that you hit the target or that you will turn on the reticule in the scope, or a myriad of other things which can go wrong. If your level of experience is very limited, that’s OK, that’s why you are seeking the services of a guide. But, perhaps we will focus on a little different type of hunt for those not experienced in firearms handling, etc. For example, if you have never hunted, we might take you to a stand and hunt over a feeder for the first hunt, rather than do a “combat wahoo.” We will judge the level of training or expertise and plan your hunt accordingly.

If we are renting you a gun, please be aware of several things: 1) we cannot “lend” ammo any more, due to the extreme cost and availability issues. You will need to show up with 6.8 SPC or 5.56mm ammo. We strongly recommend 6.8 SPC, because it has greater energy to knock down huge hogs, and you will more likely recover the meat. 2) we fully recognize that you might feel a little uncomfortable with someone else’s optics, stocks, grips, forearms, etc., and this could impact your shooting. We simply get the animal in front of you. If you think you might have trouble with our gear, then we advise bringing your own. 3) anything that is damaged while in your possession is going to be your responsibility to replace.

THE GUARANTEE: For hog hunts, the guarantee involves our getting you into a situation where you have a chance to kill the animal. If we never see one, you come back for free, and pay only the helper fee ($150 per group ) when you return to the ranch. No guide fee, and no lodging or meals are paid if we bring you back.

SAFETY: We will stress this again and again and again, until we sound like a broken record. The first paragraph denotes how we learned early on to manage the level of experience and expectations of our hunters. This leads to a better, and safer experience overall. Our hog hunts can potentially be dangerous. There is no sugar coating that. The animals themselves sometimes charge the hunters, and when we are in “combat” mode, things get wooly in a hurry. If you have never handled a semi-automatic assault rifle before, we hope that you will tell us that. We do everything humanly possible to avoid accidents and we have had none in 10 years. But, we will continue to strive for 100% perfection in safety and we hope that you understand when we demand absolute 100% perfection from our hunters in terms of muzzle awareness and the golden rules of firearm safety.

THE HUNT: When we take you deer hunting, it is traditional stand hunting. However, we also do some spot and stalk and bow hunting, as well. A guide will help spot and identify any deer harvested as being of appropriate age or considered to be “cull” status. Every deer harvested fulfills some element of the management goals. We are not simply shooting deer to make money, though we could not continue operating without the income derived from the guide service, so we believe, when you consider the playing field, our prices are exceptional. The deer on this ranch are protein & mineral fed and protected from predation by coyotes and hogs. Their feeders are protected as well. We keep the herd as close to the recommended density as is possible. Counts are done annually, and tags are issued. Once the tags are gone, we can book no more deer hunts. We suggest that you inquire about deer hunting no later than July of the preceding year, as we book some hunters into the following year immediately, after their hunt. Level III deer season generally runs from the first week of October through the last week of February.

THE GUARANTEE: Again, we get you the opportunity. If you miss the animal, we do not allow a free return trip. If we are going to guarantee hunts then we expect the hunters to follow our recommendations as to what is likely the highest percentage method at the time of their hunt. On the other hand, if we were to select the wrong rifle, and we decide the shot cannot be taken, then we’ll probably honor the guarantee.

SAFETY: All the golden rules of firearm safety will apply, and we expect our hunters to be 100%, just as we expect this of ourselves as guides.

WHITETAIL HUNT PRICING:

Deer hunts include:

Lodging and Meals: 3 meals per day, showers , washer, dryer, and big screen satellite TV.

Gun Rental: I can provide one gun if you need it (bolt action precision .308 or 6mm Remington for smaller shooters.), for a small rental fee.

Processing : quartering and packing for transport in cooler.

Taxidermy: services are offered buy our affiliate, Aransas Wildlife Studios. If we handle a cape for a shoulder mount for you, and transport it, there is a $150 storage and handling fee.

Deer hunts are catagorized as follows:

Does and Spikes:
Each hunter may take one doe or one spike for $500 per animal. This is a “per day” fee, as our success on does is 90%. If you do not bag a doe, we will allow another morning hunt the next day. This is a perfect hunt for sons and daughters, just learning to hunt.

Management (cull) Bucks:
This is defined as a buck with less than 124 B & C scoring inches in the antlers, or one that has characteristics we have deemed “inferior” for breeding. These hunts cost $1500 per buck, per weekend, and are guaranteed. If you don’t bag a buck the weekend of your hunt, we allow a return trip with no guide or lodging fee. All we ask is that you tip our helper $150 (per group) on the return trip. Since we are only issued a limited number of tags, and they are guaranteed, these hunts sell out very quickly.

Trophy Bucks:
A very exclusive hunt. We get a very limited number of trophy buck tags each season, so once they are sold, none others can be taken. We shoot only mature bucks or those “past their prime,” as we are committed to allowing younger bucks to breed. Our trophy animals generally are in the 130-140 B & C class, though some 150 class bucks do roam the ranch as you can see in the pictures (see our Gallery by clicking here). These hunts cost $4000 per buck, per weekend.

As with hog hunts, we do not offer unguided deer hunts, sorry.
